How does a kick to the face sound? Or a punch in the throat? Maybe you would like to be kneed in the chin, kicked in the stomach, a broken and bloody nose or black eye? Those are not even half of the things that can be done to you if you enter a cage match with a pro fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

If there was to be two persons kick out of this class it wouldn’t be me. The reason why is because I always get my work done in this class. I am alwasy on time and never late. I have never even missed one day of class and everyone else always does. Another reason is because I do ever thing I am told and never complain. Everyone in the class complains about every assignment and I am the oly one that does all my work and never complains. I get all A’s on all of my assignments and make sure all of my work is perfect. Someone who should get kicked out of this class is someone who gets F’s all the time and never does the work. Someone who complains and crys about everything and never shows up on time. I can think of 20 people in this class that do that but I don’t. I am the best student and I never talk back.

I am also the only one that sticks up for you in this class. Everyone else says you are mean and stupid but I said you are brilliant and one of the nicest teachers I have ever had. I also have been told by classmates that they think you smell like rotten eggs and that you dont take showers. I told them that they are mean and that you don’t smell. I think that everytime you walk in the room it is like a breath of fresh air. I had to beat a kid up in this class for talking bad about you. You better believe I beat him to a pulp because he made fun of you. I told him if he ever talked bad about you again I would beat him up again.

I wish I could be just like you. You are my hero and I want to stay in this class and learn more from you because every word that comes out of your mouth is brilliant. I think that you are the best teacher ever and everyone should applaude you for being so great. If you ran for president I would vote for you! You are the smartest person on the planet and I want to stay in this class and learn from you more and more each day. I wish class was longer just so I could have you teach me more.

The first movie that I would have to pick as one of my all time favorites woul be “Braveheart.” “Braveheart” stars Mel Gibson and is about a scottish man leading his contry to freedom over England. I like this movie because it is very detailed and it shows a lot of history. I also like it because of the battle scences in it are very realistic and it doesn’t leave out anything. The movie is also very easy to follow which makes it easy for most viewers to watch.

The second movie that I really like is actually a series of movies. “The Godfather” is a trilogy that i’ve watched numorus times. I love it because on what I know about the mafia and what I’ve read it is very accurate. The movie explores aspects of what it was like back in the time of the mafia era in the United States. This movie is also very detailed and explains a lot of things about what it meant to be part of “a family.”

“American History X” would have to the next movie on my list. I like this movie because it is also very accurate and gives a lot of detail. I think this movie has had a big inpact on the filming industry just because of what I have heard from other people that I’ve talked to. It shows the consequences of hatred and what the world is like through someone who hates one another and it just really hit me hard as well as others.

“Apacolypse Now” is another one of my favorite movies of all time. I really like the way this movie portrays Vietnam. It really doesn’t leave out much detail and shows what hell Vietnam really was. Some war movies tend to hold back on that sort of thing but not this movie. It really shows everything that Vietnam was about and it had a huge inpact on my thinking of the war especially from what I have previously read. I really love all the action in the movie and the suspense. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and there was never a dull moment.

The last movie on my list is also a type of series of movies but it was never out in theaters. This movie was aired on HBO and was about 10 hours long and comes in a 10 disc set. “Band of Brothers” is perhaps the greatest war movie of all time in my book. From what my grandfather told me about World War II, this movie doesn’t leave much out. WWII is considered one of the greatest wars of the 20th century and it effect on the people during that era is unforgetable. This is probably why the movie is 10 hours long. I love the suspense and action in this movie as well. I also loe the way the film makers made it seem like you were right there in the heat of the battle. It is a very graphic movie but I think that it needs to be because this war was a very graphic war. I guess I saved the best for last because “Band of Brothers” is by far my favorite movie of all time.

Summary: In this essay Roger Sipher uses many arguments to support his reasons why primary and secondary schools should get rid of compulsory-attendance laws. He catagorizes these arguments into three groups. The first group states that mixing students that don’t want to learn with those that do down grades the majority of the students that want to learn so they do poorly. The second is that he believes a students grades shows how much effort they put in so when a teacher decides to pass or fail a student they should understand how much effort he/she is putting into the class. The third is if schools used the compulsory-attendence laws they could save money and in the process save their good name becasue students would be attending school regularly.

Paraphrase: Roger Sipher says that parents would know how much effort their child is putting into their school work by reading their repot cards and seeing what kind of grades they are getting.

Quotation: According to Roger Sipher have no problems with attendence because, “They can fail or dismiss students, knowing such students can attend public school.” (Page 1).

Looking back upon my childhood one place stands out in my mind. That place would have to bve my Grandma and Grandpa’s house. They lived in Columbus, OH about a mile down the road from Columbus International Airport. The land there was very nice with trees all around and a big yard; there had to have been at least 14 acres or so. I remember when I was very young my dad and I use to go visit there about two or three times a week. I would always love walking into the house to see my Grandma baking pies or making homemade jam from scratch. The inside of the house always smelled so good. When I became a little older my dad would take me up there so I could help my Grandpa mow his grass. He would always want to do it himself though; I think it just kept him busy since he always had to be doing something.

I can remember all of the times I went there for Thanksgiving or Christmas and how much food Grandma would cook. It was really good and I would always see my family there. During the summers the family would get together and have cook outs every so often. The best part about that was when my Grandpa made his homemade ice cream. Man o man was that delicious, probably the best ice cream I ever had. One summer my Grandpa had his WWII Tank Battallion Reunion there and all of his old war buddies came with their families. It was a big party. My dad roasted a hog that day and I can still remember how good it smelled. In the fall and in the winter I would go there with my dad and feed the deer behind the house next to the woods. There were always so many deer up there probably because that was the only wooded area in that part of town. I also would hunt there a lot when the season was in. Those were long days spent in the woods waiting and watching for the big buck to walk in to my sights.

After my Grandpa passed away 3 years  ago nothing has been the same. My Grandma decided to sell the place because of all the developments going on around it and she got lonley in that big house but she recieved some good money out of it. I still miss going up there from time to time. Things just aren’t the same around the holidays and during the summer. I guess thats life though. Life is full of changes and people have to adjust to them sometimes no matter what the circumstances are but I will always keep the good memories I had of that place. They are burned in my mind for forever.

In this reading there are a lot of views on the images that we see in our everyday lives. The author talks about the ways that these images seem to effect us in reality. She talks about how different images portray different messages that can alter the way we thing or feel. These images can effect not only older people like herself but people of all ages. In response to what she has writen, I would like to comment on her essay and what i felt as I read it.

In reading the first few paragrahs one can understand that the author is unhappy with the way our society stresses the way people should look, especially Hollywood. She states that when she was younger she was very attractive and recieved a lot of attention because of her looks. Now that she is older she doesn’t feel people notice her as much because she isn’t as attractive as she use to be. I like how she uses examples of people from Hollywood when she stresses her point that magazines tell her that she can still be beautiful. She says, “But they don’t mean me. They mean Cher, Goldie, Faye, Candace.” She later goes on to say how rediculous it seems to her that everyone is getting plastic surgery or Botox today. It seemed like only yesterday the wealthy and movie stars were the only ones who could get that done but now anyone can and the worst part is they are!

Towards the end of this essay the author talks about how the media is now attacking children. The media puts images in magazines of young pop-stars dressing like floozies and wearing clothes that are inappropriate. Children see this and think that if they dress like that they can be popular and become noticed like the people that they read about in magazines. The media puts things in movies and magazines just to corrupt our society. They have been doing it for decades. A prime example of this is Brittney Spears. Many of you may laugh but take some time to understand where I’m, going with this. Look at Britney at age 18 or howwever old she was when she started singing. She was just a kid and over time the media and Hollywood kept pushing her to look a certian way and act a certian way in order to get attention. Little girls everywhere wanted to be just like her. As she got older she just feel apart with all the attention from the media and people telling her what to do, it drove her insane. Just look at her now! That is what the authors message in this essay I think is trying to show us. To tell us that we have to wake up and realize that this kind of behavior needs to stop.

When I think back upon my life in the past 18 years one memory always sticks out in my mind. I think about the way this event in my life has made me think, feel and how this event has helped shape and deeply impacted my future. I will probably never forget that event and it will be burned into my memory forever. The memory was the last league track meet of my senior year in high school.

I can remember it like it was yesterday. I had been waiting for this day to come since my freshman year of high school. All day I thought about the race. I couldn’t  stop thinking about it, not even for a second. No one could take my focus away, not even my teachers. I was so nervous but at the same time very confident. I had never been defeated in the mile all season and I was about to race the top runner in the area who was predicted to beat me. This put a lot of pressure on me. I never will forget the way I felt after everyone thought I was going to get beat.

When the time came to race I felt like I had butterflys in my stomach. When the gun sounded that feeling went away. I was relaxed and calm the whole race just pacing myself behind him all the way waiting for my chance to pass. When I finally hit the 150 meter marker to go I took off. At the end he was no where to be found. I ran one of the best races of my life and finished with one of my best times, a 4:28. There were times during the race that I felt like giving up. I felt as if I couldn’t go on but I’m thankful I didn’t because the result was better than anything I’ve ever experienced.

I realized that if I could approach the rest of my goals in life like this one then I will be very successful. This taught me that I can do anything as long as I believe I can do it and sacrafice things that need to be sacraficed in the proccess. This event has given me a better approach to events like it in my future and that makes all the difference.

College has been a different experience for me thus far. I have had to study a lot more than I ever did in high school and that has changed a lot about my lifestyle in school. It is also a lot different for me personaly because I live in Ohio and I am about 25o miles away. I have had to adjust toa new state and new surroundings. Most of the people here at Purdue are from Indiana and most know at least one or more people here. When I first got here I didn’t know anyone and this was frusturating at first for me. I soon meet people in my classes and started to hang out with them. I got to know a lot of people through this process. Another difference about collge is the exams. I high school I never had exams after my freshman year because our school didn’t see the need for them anymore so they discontinued them. In high school I was very pleased with this because I didn’t have to study all the time for them. Now I wish I would have had them because it would have prepared me better for the exams that I have to take in college. I also live of campus about a mile in an apartment. This has made it different because unlike most freshman I have a bigger responsiblity to maintain a house hold and pay bills. I feel as if I am one step ahead and am getting an earlier start on real life which for me is good.
